About the animals at Slade Farm Organics

The animal breeding at Slade is based around the traditional breeds which grow and fatten well on an extensive grass based system. All meat sales are only from animals bred and reared on the farm. All meat is organic.

Organic Beef
All the Beef sold through the shop is sired by a pedigree Aberdeen Angus Bull and are normally around 26 months at the age of slaughter. All beef is dry hung on the bone for a minimum of 21 days but more often for 35 days.

Organic Lamb
All the Lamb is sired by Texels. The dam is a homebred Romney Marsh cross Ewe. All lamb is sold in its first year of life and is only fed its mothers milk on organic clover pastures.

Organic Pork
All Pork is bred from a Gloucester Old Spot Sow and sired by a Duroc Boar. All pigs are born, grown and fattened outside on organic pastures. Pork is normally 9-10 months old at slaughter.

Organic Mutton
Homebred Organic Mutton is also available. All Mutton is dry hung on the bone for at least 14 days.
